BEIRUT: Customs officials at Beirut's airport thwarted two attempts to smuggle items into Lebanon to evade taxes, a statement issued by Lebanon's Customs agency said.
In the first operation, officials found three suitcases containing 317 cellphones. In the second, they found 8 kilograms of gold in a handbag.
The handbag was carried by a Lebanese identified as H.R., who had traveled to Lebanon from Dubai.
