Authorities have arrested a Bangladeshi national suspected of intentionally starting a Metn house fire earlier this week that killed two Bangladeshi women, one of whom was his wife, the Internal Security Forces announced Thursday.

The ISF Information Branch arrested 33-year-old B.Gh. Monday, just hours after he allegedly used benzene to light a fire in the room where his wife and her friend were living in the Metn town of Dora, the statement read.

The ISF reported that B.Gh. was motivated by “differences” between him and his wife.

The Civil Defense first reported the deadly fire Monday morning, posting on its official Facebook page that its team had arrived at the scene to put out the blaze at around 5 a.m.

By 7:15 a.m. the fire had been extinguished, but for the two women, the rescue mission was too late.

Civil Defense members transported the bodies of the deceased to nearby Baabda Hospital.

Rescue workers identified the two women as Bangladeshi citizens working in Lebanon, though their ages and professions were not published in Monday morning’s statement.
