Army clarifies contents of raided warehouse near Defense Ministry
The Lebanese Army issued a statement Thursday to clarify local media reports regarding the discovery of a warehouse containing weapons near the Defense Ministry in Lebanon’s Baabda district, the state-run National News Agency reported.
Internal Security Forces personnel intervened in a dispute between two people over ownership of the warehouse, which led to the discovery of ammunition and firearms, the statement said.
An investigation into the ammunition revealed that the warehouse contained seven smoke grenades as well as lightweight ammunition. Most of the ammunition found, however, was either inoperable or too old to be used.
Though local media had previously reported that, in addition to the weapons, the warehouse had contained explosives and drugs, the statement made clear that there were no explosives or drugs found.
