On 08 July 16, the Lebanese Army announced the arrest of four people from two prominent clans in east Lebanon. According to a statement, the military cordoned off the Sharawneh neighborhood in the city of Baalbek and detained two members from the Jaafar clan and raided the Tal Abyad area, arresting another two men from the Zeaiter clan. The arrests came for several counts including shooting into the air, carrying out kidnappings for financial gain and drugs. Fifty kilograms of captagon and 372 kilograms of hash, some cocaine, two unregistered cars and military weapons were found in their possession. The arrests come several days after a member of the Jaafar clan who is wanted for armed robbery and shooting at the Army was critically wounded by Lebanese soldiers at a checkpoint in the town of Iaat, near Baalbek.
