On October 25, gunshots were fired as police raided homes in Beirut’s southern suburbs to fine and remove illegally constructed buildings.
 
Armed men took the streets in Hay al-Sellom to protest the measures taken by security forces. Trash bins and tires were placed in the streets and set ablaze as hundreds of local residents headed to the streets.
 
The resident said that no previous warnings were given at all, and that the security forces started destroying illegal buildings around 3:30 am.
