Army Intelligence Wednesday announced that 50 Syrians in north Lebanon had been arrested on charges of entering and residing in the country illegally, the state-run National News Agency reported.

The Army Intelligence arrived at the Oasis Complex in Didde, Koura, after reports that a fight had broken out between refugees.

They subsequently found that most of the complex’s residents had expired residency permits.

Some of those arrested were released after their status was settled, while others are still detained on charges of entering Lebanon illegally.

There are numerous illegal border crossings along Lebanon’s eastern border, from Jabal al-Sheikh to Hermel, a source previously told The Daily Star.

In May, more than 50 undocumented Syrian refugees were arrested after the Lebanese Army raided encampments in north and east Lebanon.
