An alleged retaliatory crime left one man dead in the Baabda district village of Ras al-Metn Thursday morning. The Internal Security Forces have arrested a suspect in the incident, according to the National News Agency. Nazem Najib Hatoum, 40, was killed in the village in what appeared to be a revenge crime, linked to a four-year long dispute over a piece of land which led, at the time, to the killing of Makram Mazen Hatoum, NNA reported. Hatoum, is from the Baabda district village of Kfar Salwan, but resided in Ras al-Metn. Security forces launched an investigation into the incident and arrested a suspect named A.H. in the incident. A Syrian man has conspired to murder his wife in collaboration with a compatriot with the aim of marrying another woman and achieving financial gain, the Internal Security Forces announced on Wednesday. “Today at 4:10 am, an Infiniti SUV was involved in a shooting on the Fast Metn Highway,” the ISF said in a statement. The vehicle was carrying Syrian nationals M. J., 26, his wife F. A., 26, and the driver M. B., 29. September 11, 1983: Twenty-seven Christians in the mixed Druze-Christian village of Ras al-Metn in the district of Baabda were killed. That same day, 21 Christians, including 3 children, were killed in Maasser Beit Eddine in the Shuf. In the same district, 38 Christians were killed in Shartun, 5 each in Shurit and Deir Dourit; and 34 in Wadi al-Sitt. Before the Christians were murdered in Deir Durit, the LF set up a checkpoint and killed 12 Druze who were passing through. |
