Protesters block roads in Beirut and burn election posters to denounce the economic crisis and power cuts

Protesters gathered in several neighborhoods of Beirut on Tuesday night, blocking roads and burning election posters, local media outlets reported. Roads were blocked with dumpsters in the Mazraa and Kaskas areas, according to media reports, by demonstrators protesting the economic crisis and electricity shortages. Protesters burned electoral candidates’ posters, including those of independent candidate Fouad Makhzoumi. The neighborhoods where these protests took place are traditionally linked to former Prime Minister Saad Hariri’s Future Movement, which is not participating in the legislative elections scheduled for May 15.
