أعلنت مؤسسة كهرباء لبنان، في بيان، أنه "على أثر قيام بعض من المحتجين في منطقة عرمون مساء اليوم الواقع فيه 08/01/2022 باقتحام محطة التحويل الرئيسية في عرمون، غير آبهين بتعريض سلامتهم الشخصية وسلامة العاملين في المحطة للخطر، وبالعبث بمحتوياتها وبأجراء مناورات كهربائية داخلها، حيث قاموا بقطع محول الربط 150-220 ك.ف، وفتح قواطع ربط معمل الزهراني بمحطة عرمون مما أدى إلى نشوء إضطربات على الشبكة الكهربائية واثر سلبا على ثباتها واستقرارها، الأمر الذي تسبب بفصل جميع معامل إنتاج الطاقة التي كانت متوفرة عنها وصولا للإنقطاع العام للتيار الكهربائي عن كامل الأراضي اللبنانية عند الساعة 17,27.
 

Électricité du Liban announced Saturday night that its power service had gone down across the country, blaming the disturbance on protesters who had “stormed the main substation in Aramoun,” a town in Aley. The state-run power utility said in a statement that its services were cut off at 5:27 p.m. across Lebanon because "protesters in the Aramoun region on the evening of Jan. 8, 2022, rushed the main substation... jeopardizing their personal safety and the safety of the station's staff." According to EDL, the protesters' interference at the substation, including opening circuit breakers between the Zahrani power plant and the Aramoun facility, affected the electrical grid's stability, resulting in a nationwide power outage.
