An infant boy was in good health after Tripoli security personnel found him abandoned in a trash bag, according to the local hospital that provided his medical treatment.

Security forces transported the boy to Tripoli’s Islamic Hospital after having found him on a nearby street with no sign of his parents.

A Palestinian woman thought to be his mother was taken into police custody Wednesday afternoon, a security source told The Daily Star. However, it was unclear whether she was responsible for abandoning the boy on the street.

The boy, who appeared to be several months old, was given a clean bill of health after doctors in the hospital’s emergency wing had washed and examined him.

There were reportedly no identification documents to indicate to hospital workers the name or exact age of the child.

Police officers later took the boy from the hospital, sources said, though his destination was unknown. His parents had not reportedly been located at the time he left the hospital.
