Hezbollah and LAF deployed after explosion in Saida
A Hezbollah member was killed Tuesday after an unidentified blast went off in south Lebanon, causing panic among residents.
Bilal Ahmad Hasan, born in 1985 and also known as Abdo, was killed in the small explosion in Sidon's Haret Saida. The blast in the ground floor of a three-story building caused panic among residents in the primarily Shiite area of Haret Saida.
The Hezbollah officials said that Hasan was killed after an RPG that he was either carrying or inspecting exploded. Members of the party cordoned off the area, preventing citizens from approaching the scene.
The security forces and the Lebanese Army also attended the scene and opened an investigation into the incident.
The detonation of the device left Hasan with severe injuries and he died after being transported to a nearby hospital.
At the beginning, it was not immediately clear what caused the incident, with preliminary information indicated that the source of the blast was an electricity transformer or a gas canister.
However, the damage caused by the explosion clearly showed that it was either a mortar shell or an explosive device that was detonated, according to witnesses.
News circulated that Hezbollah members frequently headed to the house, but the party did not have an official center there.
