ISF arrests suspects in counterfeit currency gang
The Internal Security Forces announced the arrest of two men in Aley who are suspected of being members of a dangerous counterfeiting gang, an ISF statement said.
The suspects, identified as Lebanese national A.Aa., born in 1972, and Iraqi national A.S., born in 1985, were arrested by a patrol of the ISF’s Information Branch on Dec. 18, the ISF said.
The men were arrested in a Jeep Cherokee, which was found to contain $384,000 in fake currency, all in $100 bills.
The operation came after information was made available to the ISF indicating that a large amount of fake currency was set to be injected into the market over the holiday season.
The Iraqi detainee reportedly belonged to an international gang engaged “in the field of counterfeiting and promoting fake currencies at an international level.”
