توافرت معلومات لشعبة المعلومات في قوى الامن الداخلي عن قيام شخص بالاتصال بالعديد من ضباط هذه المديرية العامة في منطقة البقاع، منتحلاً صفة ضابط من المؤسسة بغية طلب خدمات خاصة له. وبنتيجة المتابعة، تمكنت هذه الشعبة من تحديد هوية الشخص المشتبه به، وتوقيفه بتاريخ 11/12/2017، ويدعى ا. م. (مواليد عام 1972، لبناني) بالتحقيق معه بإشراف القضاء المختص، اعترف بما نسب اليه.
