General Security arrested a Daesh recruiter
General Security announced that it had arrested a Daesh (ISIS) member and recruiter in Lebanon who was traveling across the country using a fake ID.
The Syrian national was arrested following a pursuit after General Security received information that a Daesh member was traveling through Lebanon with a forged Iraqi ID.
During questioning, the suspect admitted that he belonged to Daesh and that he was promoting support for the group on social media platforms. He started to fight with the organisation after his brother's death in Syria while fighting alongside Daesh.
He joined a Daesh group that worked on targeting and shutting down websites opposing it. He also created several fake accounts to attract people with the aim of recruiting them to Daesh. He was also in charge of gathering information about Syrians in Lebanon opposing Daesh in order to harm their families in area’s under the group’s control in Syria.
