Crowds of Palestinian and Lebanese worshippers protested against the Jewish state in the southern city of Sidon after Friday prayers. In the courtyard of the Sidon Serail, the demonstrators burned Israeli flags and chanted slogans in support of Palestinians protesting the security measures imposed by Israel at the Al-Aqsa Mosque holy site in Jerusalem.
“What is happening in Palestine is a crime against the owners of the land,” said Ayman Shanaa, a Hamas official in Sidon.
“We call on Hamas to fight the Israeli occupier ... [Hamas] is a legitimate and national [organization], and will not retreat from resistance and harassment.”
