"توافرت معلومات لدى شعبة المعلومات في قوى الأمن الداخلي عن قيام عصابة مؤلفة من لبنانيين وسوريين، في بلدة بر الياس البقاعية، باحتجاز أشخاص سوريين من نساء وأطفال كانوا قد دخلوا لبنان عن طريق التهريب، بحيث يقوم أفرادها بالتواصل مع ذوي المحتجزين ومفاوضتهم على فدية مالية لقاء إطلاق سراحهم.

من خلال المتابعة والاستقصاءات والتحريات، تمكنت قوة من الشعبة المذكورة من تحديد مكان الاحتجاز، وهو أحد منازل البلدة المذكورة، ودهمه في تاريخ 20/7/2017، حيث تمكنت من تحرير ثلاث عائلات قوامها خمسة عشر شخصا، من بينهم ثلاثة أطفال وامرأتان.

كذلك جرى توقيف أحد الضالعين، ويدعى م. ز. (مواليد عام 1994، سوري).
التحقيق جار بإشراف القضاء المختص، والعمل مستمر لتوقيف باقي أفراد العصابة".
