Two men, identified as H.H., born 1984, and P.A., born 1989, were arrested on suspicion of stealing an estimated $82,800 from the Al Baraka Bank branch in Beirut’s Cola neighborhood, the Internal Security Forces said in a statement. The weapons used and the money stolen – $43,800 in U.S. dollars and LL58.9 million ($39,000) – were seized by the ISF, the statement added.
A security source told The Daily Star the men fired once inside the bank to scare employees and customers but no casualties were reported. The men fled on a motorcycle. The source added that there were no cameras inside the bank but cameras on the exterior of the building captured the license plate number of the getaway motorcycle.
