A 24-year-old student was shot and killed Tuesday night after celebrating his birthday as he returned home on the Dora highway north of Beirut, a source told The Daily Star.

Universite Saint-Esprit de Kaslik engineering student Roy Hamoush was heading to Mansourieh with his friend, Johnny Nassar, before a traffic dispute erupted with three men who were driving a BMW with tinted windows along the Jal al-Dib highway. The argument escalated into a car chase ending in Karantina, where the men cut off Hamoush’s car, exited the vehicle and shot Hamoush in the head. Nassar fled the scene before the shooting started, calling the police after hearing shots. Shortly after, the ISF arrived to find Hamoush lying in a pool of blood. The student was rushed to St. Georges Hospital in Ashrafieh where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Kataeb MP Nadim Gemayel condemned the incident, tweeting, “May the criminals be prosecuted and weapons controlled so we can set things straight.” Other MPs Sami Gemayel, Alain Hakim and Ibrahim Kanaan also called for the criminals to be brought to justice. Further investigations are ongoing.
