Lebanese Army veterans gathered in Tripoli, demanding a raise outlined in a proposed salary scale bill.

The raises “are righteous demands for us and for our families,” a protester said, adding that their will to sacrifice their lives had no comparison.

“The serviceman who made sacrifices for his country ... should not end up this way at his old age,” another protester said of their low income.

Demonstrators carried Lebanese flags as they made their demands.

The salary scale is a draft bill awaiting debate in Parliament. Speaker Nabih Berri has said it would be included on the agenda of a contentious session on May 15, which may be postponed depending on developments in agreeing a draft electoral law.
