Employees and workers at the Sidon Government Hospital protested in south Lebanon against what they say is the Health Ministry’s false promises of payment.

The lack of funds harms the hospital’s capabilities of accepting patients, as the basic resources it needs to run properly are unavailable. The protest lasted for one hour, as employees asked for their demands to be met by next week at the latest in order to avoid more drastic actions being taken.

Doctors and employees at the hospital, who have not been paid their salaries, held signs that read “The hospital is in danger," "Support with money and not words” and “Our salaries are a basic right."

In July 2016, employees held a protest at the entrance of the Sidon Public Hospital over their unpaid wages. The employees hadn’t been paid for nearly four months. They raised banners and signs that demonstrated their frustration.

In late April, employees at the Rafik Hariri University Hospital also protested, demanding that the administration take their work rights and conditions into consideration.
