East Lebanon's Baalbeck shuts down in general strike
Residents of Baalbeck went on general strike to protest the deteriorating security situation in the east Lebanon city.
Protesters gathered in town squares and markets at 10:00 a.m., and met at the southern entrance of the city of Baalbeck.
Public and private schools, as well as universities, closed their doors.
Banks and businesses followed suit, as well as local police.
The strike took place in 14 Baalbeck municipalities, including Nahleh, Douris, Majdaloun, and Taybeh.
Lakkis's decision for a general strike to take place was made during a meeting with local civil society members, Baalbeck municipal council members, and residents at a hall in al-Mustafa Mosque.
The protest is being held in front of the Baalbeck gendarmerie against what the mayor deemed ISF's inaction.
