Dispute between two clans leads to cross-border kidnapping
Internal Security Forces confirmed the kidnapping of two brothers in Lebanon's northeast town of Hermel, following a dispute between two powerful clans, a security source told The Daily Star.
The two brothers Ali and Hussein Moussawi were kidnapped by Ahmad Jaafar. However, security forces have not ruled out the possibility that other accomplices were involved in the kidnapping.
“The dispute between the Jaafar and Moussawi clans came after a smuggling operation from Syria to Lebanon,” the source said. “It is likely they were smuggling diesel fuel or narcotics.”
Relatives of the Moussawi brothers reported the kidnappings to the police. An investigation into the incident is underway.
The source added that the two brothers were taken to the town of Zeita in Syria, where the family owns property.
