BEIRUT: Maintenance employees at the Lebanese University campus in Hadath, south of Beirut, briefly blocked the road to protest the sacking of their colleagues.

The National News Agency said that the employees were enraged by a decision by contracting company, Kharafi National, to lay off a number of long-serving employees.

Security forces deployed in the area to prevent demonstrators from escalating their acts.

Kharafi National is contracted to manage the facility and operate maintenance at the electro-mechanical, security, cleaning and landscaping of multi-disciplinary facilities and schools at the campus.
