Five suspected car thieves arrested in east Lebanon

BEIRUT: The Lebanese Army Tuesday apprehended five fugitives who had arrest warrants issued against them in east Lebanon, authorities said.

An Army Intelligence unit raided the homes of the five suspects in the town of Nabha near Baalbeck in the Bekaa Valley, an army statement said.

The army detained Lebanese nationals Husain Amhaz, Zein al-Abidin Qataya, Melhem Amhaz, and Ahmad Amhaz, the statement said.

According to the statement, the servicemen shot and captured Ahmad Amhaz after he had opened fire at them.

An Egyptian national identified as Rony Ashraf was also apprehended, it said.

The army impounded three SUVs and a panel Van, all of which did not have registration plates, it said, in addition to four Kalashnikov rifles and lightweight ammunition.
