On 12 Nov 16, residents of various towns in north, south and Mount Lebanon staged protests over authorities' decision to establish landfills near their homes. Demonstrators in the town of Sfira in the Minyeh-Dinnieh district burnt tires along a main road in protest of a municipal decision to establish a landfill and a waste sorting plant outside the town. They argued that the landfill would have a negative impact on both the local residents and the environment. Internal Security Forces prevented the protesters from entering the district's Justice Palace premises.
