The Internal Security Forces announced Monday it had arrested a wanted man in a southern suburb of Beirut, but that his accomplice managed to escape.

“Following information and surveillance, local police forces were informed of two wanted men suspected of stealing motorcycles, while using weapons,” the ISF said in statement. The men were suspected of committing crimes across Mount Lebanon districts, including Beirut’s southern suburbs, Khaldeh, Choueifat, Aramoun and Baabda.

Security forces arrested a Lebanese man born in 1996. His accomplice fled at the time of arrest. During questioning, the man admitted to committing over 100 armed robberies with the help of two Syrians, and to stealing motorcycles, also with the help of two others, one of whom has previously been arrested.

The other, 22, was arrested on the 5th November when police raided his home and found a firearm used in a robbery. He admitted to using narcotics and questioning revealed that he was wanted for failing to appear in court for a previous arrest.

The suspects are being held in a police station in Beirut’s southern suburbs pending further directions from the judiciary.
