Activists from the We Want Accountability group rallied outside Beirut’s Justice Palace Tuesday to protest against corrupt institutions and officials.
“Our main goal today was to meet with the head of the Higher Judicial Council Jean Fahed,” group organizer Nehmat Badreddine told The Daily Star. “We were told that he was not present, with no further explanation ... We don’t regard this as a positive sign.”
Instead, they met with Financial Prosecutor Judge Ali Ibrahim. The activists were following up on a previous sit-in they held last week. After rushing into the Central Inspection Department activists met with its head. He informed them that the files pertaining to the companies contracted by the government to export Lebanon’s waste were transferred to the Higher Judicial Council.
