Authorities Wednesday arrested a suspected drug trafficker following a shootout in east Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley.
A security source told The Daily Star anti-drug unit agents arrested Sultan Majid Ismail in Hawsh Snid, some two kilometers from the border town of Brital, Ismail’s hometown.
The source said the agents exchanged gunfire with Ismail shortly after he crossed a Lebanese Army checkpoint Hawsh Snid in the northern Bekaa Valley.
The anti-drug bureau had closely monitored Ismail’s activities prior to his arrest, according to the source.
