Secondary school teachers protest salary delays
Secondary school teachers who work on contract held a sit-in Saturday for the second time in less than a week to protest salary delays.
The protesters, who held their sit-in near the Ministry of Education building in Beirut's UNESCO area, claimed that the ministry has delayed the payment of their salaries by six months.
They tried to erect a tent in the middle of the street to press their demands, but police stopped them.
On Monday, the teachers held a similar sit-in.
They accused Education Minister Elias Bou Saab of "turning a deaf ear" to their demands.
The teachers urged the ministry to halt open competition between contract workers for posts and pay them their salaries.
