Six army soldiers were killed and two others injured this evening in an ambush set up by gunmen in Tallet al-Hamra in the outskirts of Rass Baalbeck, National News Agency correspondent reported on Tuesday.

Both sides engaged in clashes which required the intervention of the airborne regiment.

The six martyrs' bodies and the injured soldier were taken to the local "Universal" Hospital in Ras Baalbeck, whereby the wounded person is currently undergoing surgery in his leg.

The Lebanese Army Command - Orientation Directorate issued on Tuesday the following statement:

"Around 5:10 p.m. this afternoon, an army patrol circulating Ras Baalbeck terrains fell into an ambush set by a terrorist group. A clash took place between soldiers and terrorists, resulting in six martyrs among the military, and one slightly wounded soldier. The army sent reinforcements to the area. Military units have taken appropriate measures on ground."
