Conflict Incident Report

The Shi’a community in South Lebanon was becoming increasingly unhappy about the protracted war between the Israelis and PLO militias with their Lebanese allies, because the Shi’a were bearing the brunt of it. As of the summer of 1976, there had been some short-lived clashes between Amal members and the PLO already. In parallel, the Joint Forces were also fighting against Christian militias based in the areas of Marjeyoun and Khiyam. These were also known as border militias. The Israeli Army supported them, transporting by sea some of their members from the center of the country to the south and by way of artillery shelling.
