Armed Conflict 1st half 2017
Sour district witnessed the highest intensity of Armed Conflict in the first half of 2017 with a total of 93 incidents. 97% of these incidents are related to Border Conflict with Israel and 96% are categorised as sea border violations from the Israeli Military.
During the first half of 2017, Baalbeck district witnessed the second highest intensity of conflictivity in this dimension, with 68 incidents among which more than half are located in Arsal. In fact, the majority of incidents mapped in Baalbeck are categorised as heavy artillery with the Lebanese Armed Forces shelling terrorist posts in the outskirts of Arsal and Ras Baalbeck.
In the first half of 2017, 52 incidents classified under the Armed Conflict dimension were recorded in the Saida district, with 87% of them located in Ain el-Helweh (45 incidents). In fact, the camp witnessed a significant escalation of tensions during this period that led to armed clashes between Palestinian factions, as well as conflicts between Palestinian Joint Security Forces and armed militants within the camp. Therefore, the Armed Conflict located in Ain el-Helweh are often categorised as armed clashes which include the use of heavy artillery, or as explosion, with most of them being grenades anonymously thrown for unknown purpose.
