Metn residents protested against building's destruction

Local Metn residents threw stones Wednesday to protest the Internal Security Forces’ attempted destruction of an allegedly illegal building, local media reported.

ISF were present in large numbers in order to protect members of Jdeideh Municipality who were carrying out the destruction, a security source told The Daily Star.

The Jdeideh Municipality had reportedly issued a series of warnings to those who built the home, in the town of Roueisat, but these warnings were not complied with.

Residents, captured in local news footage, protested that repercussions for building permit violations are typically only metered out in lower income areas. They tried to resist the ISF’s moves towards the building in question by setting a fire and throwing projectiles at ISF officers.
