Employees of state telecommunications provider Ogero announced Monday that they will hold an open-ended strike starting Tuesday to demand better wages, the state-run National News Agency reported. Following an emergency meeting at the union’s headquarters, the Executive Council of the Syndicate of Ogero Employees and Workers said in a statement that it will go on a strike “until the wages for all sector workers are commensurate with the existing living situation.” As a result of the strike, work in all sectors will be halted and “all maintenance and operation work, without exception, will be suspended in all centres across the country, starting tomorrow.”

Employees at state-owned telecommunications company Ogero announced on September 17th the end of their open strike after President Michel Aoun signed two decrees related to the workers' rights, according to a statement published by the state-run National News Agency. The decision to end the strike follows the signing by Aoun of two decrees answering the workers' demands. The first one, decree no. 10109, grants an advance from the Treasury of a little over LL96 billion, which will be used to disburse to employees a monthly amount of "social assistance," additional transportation allowances and payments rewarding the "presence" of employees until the end of the year. The second decree (no. 10110) grants an advance of LL128 billion to be used for salary increases, in addition to an advance for the "high cost of living," without specifying the amount.

عقد المجلس التنفيذي للنقابة اجتماعاً طارئاً في مقر النقابة في بئر  حسن (اليوم) الإثنين للبحث في بند وحيد: "الوضع المعيشي المتأزم"؛ وأعلن بالإجماع بدء الإضراب العام في كل القطاعات وتوقف كل أعمال الصيانة والتشغيل من دون استثناء في كل مراكز الهيئة على الأراضي اللبنانية بدءاً من غد الثلاثاء الى حين تصحيح الأجور لجميع العاملين في القطاع (مستخدمين، مياومين، متعاقدين وملحقين) بما يتناسب مع الوضع المعيشي القائم. وأبقى المجلس جلساته مفتوحة لمواكبة التطورات التي نطلعكم عليها في حينها".
