Electricité du Liban workers start a three-day strike nationwide to demand an increase in wages, retirement pensions and hospital coverage and to protest the energy sector reform plan
Workers at several branches of state-owned Electricité du Liban launched a three-day strike yesterday, which is set to continue today. The head of the EDL employees’ union, Charbel Saleh, is calling for wages to be aligned with those of company contractors, full hospital coverage and for retirement pensions in line with those of other public sector workers, according to a report published by the state-run National News Agency. The union also called on workers to challenge the energy sector reform plan proposed by Energy Minister Walid Fayad, which they say will prioritize the interests of private contractors over EDL employees.
وطنية - أفاد مندوب الوكالة الوطنية للاعلام ان عمال مؤسسة كهرباء لبنان نفذوا بدعوة من النقابة اعتصاما في المؤسسة وكل مراكز العمل، على أن يستمر ثلاثة أيام. وأوضح نقيب عمال ومستخدمي المؤسسة شربل صالح أن "النقابة تطالب باحتساب رواتب العمال والمستخدمين على سعر المنصة التي تطبق عليها رواتب العاملين في شركات مقدمي الخدمات، ولن نقبل بأقل من ذلك لان اصغر موظف في هذه الشركات راتبه يوازي راتب مدير". كما طالب ب"ضم ملحقات الراتب الى أساسه وتأمين التغطية الشاملة والاستشفائية للعمال وتطبيق أحكام ومتدرجات أنظمة التقاعد المطبق في الإدارات العامة على جميع العاملين في المؤسسة العامة الخاضعة للمرسوم 4517، كما تطبق السلاسل وغلاء المعيشة".
