Demonstrators gather in front of the Association of Banks of Lebanon headquarters and march to the Serail and to Banque du Liban headquarters to protest against the economic situation, the informal capital controls and the draft budget
Dozens of demonstrators gathered in front of the Association of Banks of Lebanon headquarters in the Gemmayzeh area of Beirut. The demonstrators marched towards the Grand Serail before arriving in front of the Banque du Liban headquarters in the Hamra neighbourhood. The protesters were decrying the economic situation as well as the informal capital controls enforced by commercial banks on depositors over the past two years, as well as taxes proposed in the new draft budget. The demonstrators carried signs and shouted slogans denouncing the banks' policies.
The protesters threw flares toward BDL as security forces looked on but refrained from intervening. The demonstrators then marched on through Hamra, hitting the facades of bank branches with sticks, without causing any visible damage.
