Day 74: Protests rally against Diab's designation and protest in front of caretaker Telecommunications Minister Mohammad Choucair's home

On the 74th day of the nationwide uprising, protesters Sunday gathered near Prime Minister-designate Hassan Diab’s residence in Tallet el-Khayat.

The protesters rejected Diab’s designation to form a new government.

Regular demonstrations have taken place outside his home since his designation by President Michel Aoun as Lebanon's new premier on Dec. 19 as many protesters have questioned Diab's fitness for office.

Earlier Sunday, protesters gathered in front of caretaker Telecommunications Minister Mohammad Choucair's home in Hamra. They were demonstrating against the renewal of operating contracts for the two state-run mobile companies Alfa and Touch.

The demonstrators made claims of corruption in the telecoms sector and the ministry itself.

There were calls for demonstrations in Riad al-Solh Square, in order to mark the 74th day of Lebanon's unprecedented uprising with a “Sunday of Accountability.”
