Campaign to save Bisri Valley petitions World Bank

Dozens gathered outside the World Bank offices in Downtown Beirut Monday to submit a petition protesting the creation of a 125-million cubic meter reservoir in south Lebanon’s Bisri Valley.
The World Bank is one of the main financers of the controversial Bisri Dam project, which it says will benefit over 1.6 million people living in greater Beirut and Mount Lebanon.

But environmental groups strongly oppose the creation of the dam, citing issues related to biodiversity, cultural heritage, public health, local economy and seismic activity.
