Collective Action

 Banque du Liban employees in all BDL branches across the country began a three-day strike Wednesday morning. BDL branches from the north to the south have closed their gates as all employees strike, with the exception of bank security guards. The union announced the strike after Judge Ghada Aoun entered BDL’s headquarters in Hamra on Tuesday morning along with members of State Security. Aoun was searching for Riad Salameh, BDL’s governor, who she had issued a subpoena against in February after he did not show up for questioning as part of an investigation into alleged misconduct and corruption. The Executive Board of the Federation of Banks Employees Syndicates in Lebanon endorsed the position taken by the BDL employees' union and and it considers exposing criminals and their crimes the responsibility of the judiciary alone. During the strike, BDL will be closed, which means that operations requiring validation of its services will be suspended for the remainder of the working week. This includes: transfers abroad, check clearing and exchange operations at BDL’s Sayrafa platform rate. BDL’s employees observed a one-day “warning” strike late June to protest against “the legal proceedings and accusations” that target the central bank and its staff.

وطنية - أشارت نقابة موظفي مصرف لبنان في بيان، أنه "أثناء قيام مجموعة من جهاز أمن الدولة بالدخول إلى حرم مصرف لبنان، قامت القاضية غادة عون ومرافقوها، بالدخول إلى حرم المصرف بطريقة غير مألوفة ومن دون مراعاة الأصول القانونية المعتمدة، مما مسَ بكرامة مؤسسة مصرف لبنان وموظفيها". 
 
وأعلنت أنّ "مجلسها اتخذ بالإجماع قرارا بإعلان الإضراب والإقفال التام لمدة 3 أيام ابتداء من غد الأربعاء في 20 تموز، إتاحة للعقلاء التدخل حماية للمؤسسة، وذلك عطفا على إضرابها التحذيري السابق وبياناتها التي طالبت من خلالها جميع المعنيين بحماية مؤسسة مصرف لبنان وموظفيها، خصوصا أنها المؤسسة الوحيدة التي تعمل في لبنان بطاقتها الكاملة، رغم الظروف الصعبة، وبعد عدم التجاوب مع مطالبها مما يطرح علامات استفهام حول نية البعض إقفال هذه المؤسسة وتعطيل عملها، وعطفا على كل ما سبق، ونظرا إلى كل هذه التصرفات التي مورست وشكلت تجنيا وافتراء على المؤسسة وموظفيها". 
 
وإذ جددت تأكيدها أنها "تحت سقف القانون"، ناشدت "جميع المعنيين، لا سيما وزير العدل ورئيس مجلس القضاء الأعلى والمدعي العام التمييزي التدخل لوضع حد لهذه التصرفات غير اللائقة من قبل القاضية غادة عون، والتي تخرج عن كل الأصول القانونية في سابقة لا مثيل لها، حتى لا نضطر آسفين لإعلان الإضراب المفتوح".
