Protesters blocked the roads with tire burning against the destruction of encampments in downtown Beirut by the police

 

BEIRUT: Riot police forcibly cleared dozens of people from protest encampments in Downtown Beirut Friday evening after Cabinet’s enhanced curfew measures came into effect.

“They came at 6:30 p.m. and told us to leave immediately. They didn’t give us any warning and when people refused they attacked and destroyed every tent,” one protester named Hadi told The Daily Star. “They then destroyed the tents in the Azarieh parking lot before moving on to Martyrs' square.”

Hariri hospital employees demand salary payment outside the hospital

BEIRUT: Employees of Rafik Hariri University Hospital, the center of Lebanon's battle against coronavirus, held a sit-in Friday to protest nonpayment of their salaries and delayed wage hikes.

Employees at the sit-in demanded they receive a salary raise in line with the salary scale law passed by Parliament in 2017.

Despite the coronavirus outbreak, employees said that they still have not “received their full entitlements,” the state-run National News Agency reported.

وطالب المشاركون في المسيرة الحكومة، بتأمين الطعام لهم ليتمكنوا من العيش مع عائلاتهم، بعد أن توقفت كل مصادر رزقهم بسبب إقفال المحال والمؤسسات في المدينة.
