Protesters sit-in and block Al Kayal road in support of the General amnesty law

وتحدث باسم المعتصمين الشيخ محمد جعفر، فقال: "قانون العفو مدرج بالبيان الوزاري والورقة الاصلاحية التي وافق عليها كل الاطراف، وليوضح لنا من يرفض العفو أين الفقرات التي تعفي سفاكي الدماء وقتلة العسكر وناهبي المال العام كما يزعمون".

Abducted man’s family blocks main highway over lack of progress

Relatives of a man who has been missing for 24 days blocked the Barbara highway Friday morning to protest the lack of progress in solving his disappearance. At 7 a.m., protesters and relatives of Joseph Hanoush, who disappeared in the Bekaa region 24 days ago, blocked the Barbara highway near Jbeil with burning tire. Metn MP Elias Hankash asked Lebanon’s security forces to follow up on the issue. An hour after the protest, the road was reopened and the Civil Defense team in Jbeil extinguished the burning tires.

Prisoner hunger strike for amnesty escalates

The campaign to grant a general amnesty for some prisoners in Lebanon escalated sharply Thursday when inmates set a fire inside Tripoli’s Qibbeh Prison and their families burned tires outside and attempted to enter.

Days before, prisoners in both Qibbeh and Metn’s Roumieh Prison had started a hunger strike to call for an amnesty and protest prison conditions.

A prominent general amnesty activist with knowledge of the situation said security forces had tried to end the strike Thursday, leading some prisoners to riot and set a fire.

Protest for General Amnesty in Tripoli

Three women and a man were injured Friday after a van drove into a protest in Tripoli’s al-Nour Square held in demand of general amnesty for Islamist prisoners, the state-run National News Agency reported.

Security forces and dozens of residents were seen running after the vehicle in a video posted online by local Facebook news page Tripoli News Network. A person’s screams could be heard in the distance.

Islamist prisoners' families demand ‘all-inclusive’ amnesty

 Families of Islamist prisoners staged protests across Lebanon Friday, urging officials to speed up the issuance of an amnesty law.

The protests, which included demonstrations in Sidon, Baalbek and Tripoli, also demanded that the amnesty be “all-inclusive,” after President Michel Aoun affirmed Thursday that such amnesty would not include those involved in the killing of Army personnel.

Families of Islamist detainees demand amnesty

Families of detained Islamists renewed their demands that their families members be included in a general amnesty.

"All we demand is a general amnesty," cried one protester in the southern city of Sidon.

The demonstrators, mostly women, and children set out to al-Bizri mosque after Friday prayers, holding photographs of the detainees.

Families of Islamist Prisoners in Lebanon Rally for Amnesty

Hundreds of protesters have rallied in the Lebanese capital demanding that Islamist prisoners be part of a discussed general amnesty.

The rally in central Beirut was attended by hundreds of families of Islamist prisoners. They were pressing the government to include their relatives in a general amnesty expected to come ahead of the country's first election in ten years.

The elections are scheduled for May. Lebanon had one general amnesty after the end of the civil war in 1990.

Families of the Islamist detainees staged a sit-in outside the Tripoli Serail, calling on the authorities to grant general amnesty.
The protesters raised banners demanding the deputies of the northern city to present a draft law pertaining to releasing the detainees.
