Activists and family members stage a sit-in outside the Justice Palace in Beirut to demand the release of two activists detained in connection with a bank hostage situation
A number of activists and the families and friends of the detainees protested in front of the Justice Palace in Beirut on Wednesday demanding the detainees’ release, NNA and local media reported. However, the protesters did not disperse after the decision to release Zakaria and Rustom, following the referral of Zakaria to the military court as a result of an arrest warrant reportedly issued against him in absentia.
A group of activists attempted to break into the Justice Palace, but security forces stood in their way. According to the NNA, a verbal dispute took place between the activists and Blom Bank’s representative Sakher Hashem when the latter entered the courthouse.
وطنية - ينفذ عدد من الناشطين ومن أهالي وأصدقاء الموقوفين محمد رستم وعبد الرحمن زكريا، اعتصاما أمام قصر العدل في بيروت، للمطالبة بتخلية سبيلهما. وافاد مندوب "الوكالة الوطنية للاعلام" انه لم يؤد قرار تخلية سبيلهما الذي أصدره قاضي التحقيق الأول في بيروت شربل أبو سمرا لقاء كفالة مالية قدرها خمسة ملايين ليرة عن كل منهما، الى فض الاعتصام بسبب إحالة الموقوف زكريا على المحكمة العسكرية لوجود مذكرة توقيف غيابية بحقه، وقد حصل تدافع من الناشطين ومحاولة للاقتراب من مدخل قصرالعدل، الا أن القوى الأمنية منعتهم. كما حصل تلاسن بين ناشطين ووكيل بنك "لبنان والمهجر" لدى دخول الأخير الى قصر العدل.
