Electricité du Liban workers' union called on its members to stage sit-ins to protest the lack of renovations to its headquarters in Beirut and the increasing powers given to private energy service suppliers, the state-run National News Agency reported. The union called for the sit-ins to take place from Thursday through Saturday at all of the public utility's institutions, the NNA added.

The union said in a statement that due to “the lack of interest conveyed by Prime Minister Najib Mikati and the energy minister in all the statements and sit-ins carried out by the union, we find ourselves compelled to announce the strike that includes not coming to centers, not conducting maneuvers on public networks, and not receiving and delivering fuel.”

In Beirut, protestors who stormed the Electricite du Liban's building were summoned.
