Marie Kortam

Dr. Marie Kortam holds her Ph.D in Sociology from the University of Paris-Diderot. She is an Associate Researcher at the French Institute of the Near-East (IFPO - Beirut) and member of Arab Council for Social Sciences. She is “ingénieure de recherche” at Fondation Maison des Sciences de l’Homme FMSH and works as scientific coordinator for the European project PAVE (Preventing and Addressing Violent Extremism through Community Resilience in the Balkans and MENA- H2020). Previously, for 2 years (2018-2020), she occupied the position of Political Advisor in the Humanitarian dialogue Centre in Geneva working on security and political mediation in Lebanon.
Dr. Kortam leads number of studies on Palestinian camps and marginalised areas in Lebanon on protection and violence. Kortam’s research field is a “globalized violence” based on a different fieldwork in MENA and Europe. She developed a comparative research project, examinig increasingly segregated spaces, reconfigurations and practices of violence. She has numerous publications and book chapters on Palestinian refugees, youth, violence, social movements, violent extremism, armed conflicts, inequalities, identities, radicalization process, and segregation.
