dispute between armed guards and cafe guests escalates
When a private gathering of members was held at Nasawiya Cafe in Mar Mkhail a man entered and ordered all photographing to stop immediately. He turned out to be an armed guard of Nadim Jumayyil, a minister of parliament. Apparently the MP’s car drove past the cafe and the flashing of the photos had been mistaken as an attempt to take pictures of the MP’s convoy. When the crowd started to drive the man out of the cafe he loaded his gun and aimed at them while another member of the MP convoy struck a guest of the cafe on the head with a broom. Following this the MP’s guards assaulted the Cafe guests and when the police came the guests were detained inside or over two hours while the guards were let go.
