World Conference to Review and Appraise the Achievements of the United Nations Decade for Women: Equality, Development and Peace held in Nairobi. The conference brought representatives of different governments, as well as 15,000 representatives of NGOs together, leading the United Nations to describe this event as “the birth of global feminism,” and founded the UN Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM).
