The short-lived victory of Samira Soueidan
Date of Mouvement:
January 1, 2009 to December 31, 2009
Samira Soueidan was the first Lebanese woman to pass her Lebanese nationality to her children from her deceased Egyptian husband(1)Dalila Mahdawi, “The Case of Samira Soueidan,” Al-Raida, Issue 129-130, Spring/Summer 2010, Beirut, Lebanese American University, p.48. . The court, led by judges John Qazzi, Rana Habka, and Lamis Kazma, issued a verdict allowing Soueidan’s two sons and two daughters to receive the Lebanese citizenship. In May 2010, however, the Court of Cassation overturned the three judges’ verdict.(2)Dalila Mahdawi, “The Case of Samira Soueidan,” Al-Raida, Issue 129-130, Spring/Summer 2010, Beirut, Lebanese American University, p.49..
