Description:
The National Education Strategy (NES) is a ministerial initiative launched by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MEHE) in 2010 to reform the national educational curriculum. A plan focusing on 10 major educational issues including citizenship education and history was developed, setting out the challenge of integrating recent history in school curricula including the history of the Civil War. Following violent clashes in March 2012 between the Kataeb and the Free Patriotic Movement, protesting against the book, the revised history curriculum was dismissed, leaving the pre-war history textbook in place.
