Monitoring and Reporting Human Rights Violations in Lebanon

In partnership with ALEF (a Lebanese Human Rights NGO), the Lebanese Centre for Human Rights (CLDH) initiated in 2007 a project dedicated to monitor human rights violations. CLDH also produced several investigation reports on cases of human rights violations including enforced disappearance and torture. Some of these reports were focusing on individual cases, and eventually helped in revealing information about a number of detainees in Syria, many of whom were released (e.g. Georges Ayoub Chalaweet, Naji Hareb, and others). CLDH used this work to support the Right to Know campaign led by the Committee of Families of the Kidnapped and Disappeared in Lebanon. By making these reports public through media outlets, pressure was exerted on the Government to recognize these violations. CLDH also provided low-income inmates unable to afford their legal expenses with lawyers and legal assistance.
