In June 2010 plainclothes ISF Information Branch officers arrested and detained Mohammad Osman Zayat. According to a report from Alkarama, an international human rights nongovernmental organization (NGO), security officials put Zayat in stress positions, beat him, and used electric shocks to force a confession. In December 2010 Zayat was transferred to a military court where he and eight others were charged with being members of al-Qaida. Of the eight, only four were arrested. Before a September 28 hearing, Zayat was released but no compensation was paid for his detention and torture.
